FRIDAY night wasn’t strong on highlights unless you were watching Twitter.
The Magpies-Dockers clash at the MCG didn’t reach any great heights – especially with the mercury hovering around 6 degrees – but injured Collingwood star Dane Swan certainly provided some.
FOOTY FANS SURVEY: HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE GAME’S BIG ISSUES
The Brownlow Medallist took over Collingwood’s Twitter feed for the night, live tweeting the action while providing some Magpie gameplan and fashion insights.
Swan wasn’t afraid to give his teammates a clip either, sledging the likes of Travis Cloke and Travis Varcoe after they made errors early in the game.
I like varcoe’s idea to lock the ball in fwd half by kicking it out on the full. #footysmarts

Treloar on the same page as Varcoe too. Sticking with the game plan. They can’t score if it stays up our end
— Dane Swan LIVE (@CollingwoodFC) June 24, 2016
Like clokeys unselfishness to put that ball out of bounds instead of marking it.. Great team footy

There were a couple of highlights for Magpies fans to get excited about.
Mason Cox kicked a beauty in the opening term, which didn’t go unnoticed, while Tom Phillips kicked his first goal in AFL football and can look forward to a visit from Swan on Monday.
That’s obviously @masonsixtencox basketball background coming out there…..
— Dane Swan LIVE (@CollingwoodFC) June 24, 2016
Nice by that young kid to kick his first goal.. I’ll have to meet him Monday

Swan doesn’t mind the fashion world and recognised his teammates for making good use of the bye to get a new do.
It seems as though @SP_10 has a slick new haircut.. Also if we score more than freo tonight we can’t lose
— Dane Swan LIVE (@CollingwoodFC) June 24, 2016
I’m also noticing a few slick new haircuts out there tonight. Boys obviously put the bye to good use
— Dane Swan LIVE (@CollingwoodFC) June 24, 2016
I’ve also noticed a couple of the boys are getting quite the bald patch/solar panel on their heads now.. Advanced hair still about??
— Dane Swan LIVE (@CollingwoodFC) June 24, 2016
Not sure how I feel about the boys wearing long sleeves but I’ll give em a pass tonight if they have a second half like the first
— Dane Swan LIVE (@CollingwoodFC) June 24, 2016
However, despite what was meant to be a serious job of covering the game, Swan was distracted and missed the start of the third term after sneaking in an after-dinner weights session.
At least we can prove he’s serious about his rehab program … sort of.
Great pressure by all the boys tonight been locked In our half all night and I’m hungry so gonna get some food and maybe a sneaky 🍷
— Dane Swan LIVE (@CollingwoodFC) June 24, 2016
Whoops was busy doing some weights and missed the first little bit of the 3rd. Sorry. I’m back now
— Dane Swan LIVE (@CollingwoodFC) June 24, 2016
A lot of people are asking if lifting a beer or wine counts as weights. Well in short – yes
— Dane Swan LIVE (@CollingwoodFC) June 24, 2016
gotta catch up on game of thrones from Monday after this. No spoilers please. And I won’t be live tweeting through that cause it’s not live
— Dane Swan LIVE (@CollingwoodFC) June 24, 2016
Swan’s tweets certainly didn’t go unnoticed with plenty loving the coverage and insights.
Fair to say, Swanny didn’t mind the attention either.
Enjoying the tweets of @CollingwoodFC tonight more than the game itself

.@swandane showing Brownlow form on the @CollingwoodFC twitter
— Tim Michell (@tim_michell) June 24, 2016
Don’t need to watch the game when @swandane is tweetin it 👏👏
— Jamie Elliott (@elliott_jw) June 24, 2016
Swan signed off on a serious note with some hope for Magpies supporters.
Well, serious for at least for a couple of minutes.
Some very good signs out there tonight. Maybe the bye is gonna work for us this year. Great pressure all night. Now just need to continue it
— Dane Swan LIVE (@CollingwoodFC) June 24, 2016
Well that’s it everyone.. Game of thrones time for me so it’s been a pleasure but more important things to do.. ?🏼
