AFL: Julian De Stoop reports on the washup from Adelaide’s win over North Melbourne in round 14.
WITH the temperature in the low single digits, the hottest thing at the MCG was Collingwood as they thumped a woeful Fremantle side by 48 points.
It was the two big Magpie forwards who were on the board first as within 90 seconds of the first bounce, Travis Cloke and Mason Cox both kicked impressive goals.
Levi Greenwood added one later in the term as the Dockers were kept to just a single point in the quarter.
The second quarter was a dour one as the Magpies extended their lead while Fremantle was kept to one of its lowest half-time scores ever.
The Dockers then kicked the only two goals of the third quarter to give the upset a go but Collingwood kicked away to run out big winners.
But with cold and wet conditions in Melbourne, it ended up being Collingwood’s lowest crowd at the MCG since Round 5, 1940.
