32nd min — TRY: Dane Gagai scored an 80m try after a horrendous NSW blooper. Michael Jennings was hit hard after the Blues spread the ball to the left and looked to offload, but his pass was too hot to handle for Josh Mansour who fumbled and Gagai picked up the scraps. Debutant Tyson Frizell chased him down in an incredible race, managing to ankle tap him just before the line. But though the Queensland flyer fell over, he managed to just scrape over the tryline before Blake Ferguson came across and nudged him into touch. It was an inspirational effort from Frizell, but just not enough. QLD 10 NSW 4

29th min — KNOCK ON: The Blues were developing some real momentum but Greg Bird knocked on 20m out from the Queensland line. They were let off the hook when Greg Inglis knocked on in the Maroons’ ensuing set.

25th min — REPEAT SET: NSW earnt a repeat set as James Maloney grubbered into the post, trapping Darius Boyd in the in-goal area.

20th min — YET ANOTHER PENALTY: The Blues’ discipline is letting them down. They conceded penalties in four consecutive sets and Thurston levelled the scores up at 4-4 with yet another goal. Paul Gallen argued with the ref that his side was on the wrong end of the 50/50 calls. QLD 4 NSW 4

13th min — DANGEROUS TACKLE: Sam Thaiday was placed on report for a dangerous tackle on Paul Gallen, lifting him between the legs and threatening to dump him on his head. This resulted in a stoush and NSW players — particularly Aaron Woods — rushed in to let Thaiday know they weren’t happy. NSW got another penalty, adding a further two points. The Blues’ play-the-ball speed is worrying the home side. QLD 2 NSW 4

11th min — PENALTY: After getting a piggyback penalty for Queensland being offside, the refs helped the Blues out again closer to the posts and Adam Reynolds had no issues with his shot at goal. QLD 2 NSW 2

6th min — PENALTY: Thurston looked to pass short to Greg Inglis on the Blues’ line, but Dylan Walker wasn’t taking any chances and tackled him without the ball. Queensland opted for the shot at goal and Thurston added the two points. QLD 2 NSW 0

3rd min — REPEAT SET: Cameron Smith made a bust through the middle early in the set and got the Maroons down near the Blues’ tryline before Johnathan Thurston kicked into the in-goal area and Blake Ferguson was tackled.

2nd min — Strong opening sets by both teams. Queensland received first and made it over halfway before bombing, while the Blues spread it on the last in their first set before grubbering over the dead ball line.
