World Wrestling Entertainment just ran a stat saying that, after the Undertaker, John Cena has participated in the most consecutive WrestleMania pay-per-view events in company history with 12.
However, that streak will be broken Sunday night, as the veteran Superstar isn’t scheduled for a match at WrestleMania 32 due to having shoulder surgery this past January. That doesn’t mean that he can’t make an appearance at the “Show of Shows,” though, right?
A thin window of opportunity to do just that has seemingly opened up for Cena, as PWInsider reported that he is slated to be medically cleared to return to action “any time now” and that it’s possible he already has received that green light.
The ramifications of Cena being cleared are significant, considering his return could impact a match at WrestleMania 32. While the WWE Universe’s collective minds are probably racing with possible WrestleMania scenarios involving Cena, we’re no different.
So, let the speculation begin.
If there’s one match that we see Cena interfering in, it’s the Shane McMahon vs. Undertaker Hell in a Cell bout. Now, remember that Shane-O-Mac gets full control of Monday Night Raw if he can defeat the Dead Man Sunday night. Would WWE consider Cena turning full heel to prevent that? If so, plenty of toddlers would be left in tears.
Or, could we see Cena insert himself into the Triple H vs. Roman Reigns World Heavyweight title matchup, and again, turn heel, making sure the Game remains champ? Hey, anything’s possible. Finally, Cena has had his issues with various members of the League of Nations in the past. Although the Rock has been rumored to even the odds at WrestleMania 32 by teaming with the New Day against Sheamus, King Barrett, Rusev and Alberto Del Rio, could it possibly be Cena in that role instead?
One match we just don’t see Cena playing a role in is the Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose no holds barred street fight. Cena and Brock have more than run the course with their feud, and we’re not sure that anything’s left there.
However Cena is used Sunday night — if any way at all — we just hope WWE uses him creatively and out the box.
