Legendary WWE wrestler Jake “The Snake” Roberts is in the ICU at a hospital in Las Vegas.
The professional wrestler collapsed on flight bound from Atlanta to Las Vegas on Wednesday, Aug. 27. Roberts was on his way to attend wrestler Sinn Bodhi’s (who he has trained) “Freakshow Wrestling” event on Friday, Aug. 29.
The Hall of Fame wrestler was hurried to a hospital in an ambulance and doctors have diagnosed him with double pneumonia. Roberts was in coma for nearly 24 hours, but came out of it on Thursday, Aug. 28 afternoon.
“Just spoke to @JakeSnakeDDT ‘s girlfriend, Jake is now conscious but still fading in and out. Please keep the prayers coming,” posted Diamond Dallas Page, former 3-time world champion wrestler on Twitter.
For the uninitiated, 59-year old Aurelian Smith, Jr. or Jake “The Snake” Roberts was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame earlier in April this year. Roberts had a glorious wrestling career in the 1980s when WWE was known as WWF. However, Roberts also battled drug addiction and his initial efforts at rehab did not work out. Roberts’ journey has also been documented in “Beyond the Mat” – a film delving into his struggles, especially with drugs
Wrestler Sinn Bodhi revealed that Roberts had visited a doctor nearly two weeks back. He was diagnosed with flu and asked to take sufficient rest. According to Bodhi, Robert was in pain since the time; however, did not give much importance to his condition owing to the prognosis.
Currently, doctors are monitoring Roberts and reveal that his immune system is not in a very good condition. They are keeping him in ICU and are conducting some more tests to assess his condition.
“With @JakeSnakeDDT at hospital, he’s more worried about disappointing fans then getting better! We told him 2 shut up beat this phnemonia!” tweeted Bodhi.
Bodhi divulged that everyone was just trying to stay positive as Roberts continues to remain hospitalized.
