Who saw this coming? Samoa Joe shocked the NXT Universe and sent shockwaves through World Wrestling Entertainment on April 21 during a live event in Lowell, Massachusetts, upsetting Finn Balor to be crowned the new NXT champion.
That’s after The Demon held the NXT title for nearly a full year, as the most dominant champ in the promotion’s young history.
In doing so, the path has seemingly been paved for Balor to make his Monday Night Raw debut. With all the buzz swirling around Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows and the Bullet Club, could the timing be any better? After all, Balor is considered a founding member of the faction dating back to his tenure with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW).
Fueling his debut on Raw was the aftermath of Balor’s loss Thursday night. As fans patiently waited for the former NXT champ to board a bus outside of the Lowell, Massachusetts arena, they erupted in cheers when they saw Finn. Although he acknowledged them before boarding the bus, Balor stepped off the vehicle to confirm the bombshell that we all saw coming – “See you all on Monday!”
Inevitably, the WWE Universe will be watching closely to see if Balor officially makes his Bullet Club pact with the rebellious Anderson and Gallows known Monday night. Remember, earlier this week on WWE’s flagship program, AJ Styles, who was also with the Bullet Club in NJPW, downplayed his affiliation with the faction, even going out of his way to explain to Roman Reigns that he didn’t order Anderson and Gallows to ambush him.
Whether The Phenomenal One was being genuine remains to be seen, but if Balor plants his Bullet Club flag in Raw’s soil Monday Night, one would think that he would carry some weight in making Styles follow suit.
If there’s one thing that the WWE Universe loves, it’s a hostile takeover. It’s up to WWE to make Balor’s debut on Raw memorable and what better way to do it than add to the increasing heat generated by the Bullet Club’s Anderson and Gallows?
Business is about to pick up Monday night.
