But in the third match, Australia produced a spirited show in the second half to beat India 3-1 and consolidate their lead at the top.

1510 hrs IST: And it finishes 3-1 to Australia. An even first half but then Australia took over and made the most of PR Sreejesh’s absence and some good finishing. It consolidates Australia’s place at the top of the table
1506 hrs IST: With five minutes to play and needing two goals, Roelant Oltmans takes off Akash Chikte and Rupinder Pal Singh takes over the pink bib as an extra player. With India pushing forward, Mitton has a chance to hurt India further but his shot is over the goal.
1459 hrs IST: With under eight minutes to go, a review is called for. Between a stick check and a stick tackle. Looks like a tough call for the TV umpire. The decision goes Australia’s way. Matthew Willis gets a yellow card. Chance for India to get something now with a reduced Aussies.
1456 hrs IST: GOAL! Australia extend their lead to make it 3-1. Lovely dribbling by Tom Wickham to go past multiple Indian shirts and get a reverse hit on to beat Chikte.
1451 hrs IST: Mandeep Singh forces the ball into an Australian foot. Penalty corner for India. Manpreet with the push, Harmanpreet drills it. But Lovell is equal to it to push away a shot to his left
1448 hrs IST: At the end of the third quarter, Australia lead India 2-1. It has been all Australia the first part of the quarter before India made some key chances but unable to beat Lovell
1446 hrs IST: Australia making some scrambling defensive blocks and saves to keep India at bay. Sardar at the heart of the foray forward but each time a shirt in yellow is there to defy India
1443 hrs IST: Surging run by India to turn defence into attack. India have the numbers on their side. But the shot from Akashdeep is parried by Lovell. Australia maintain their lead
1440 hrs IST: India down to ten men for the next five minutes. SV Sunil gets a yellow card.
1435 hrs IST: Australia have another penalty corner. Not trapped properly but Swann regains composure to pass it to Tom Craig who controls it beautifully and smacks it between Chikte’s legs. Lovely conversion. Australia take a 2-1 lead
1432 hrs IST: Australia go across quickly and win another penalty corner. Dawson has an attempt but it hits the foot of an Indian player. But India choose to review. Tough decision for the TV umpire to make. Says, “no advise possible” hence the on-field decision of a penalty corner stays.
1432 hrs IST: Australia have a penalty corner but nothing comes from it. Well defended by India. Four-time champions of the tournament go for a quick counter but Australia stand firm to deny the ball into the area
1430 hrs IST: Underway in the second half with the teams locked at 1-1. Against Great Britain, too, India led and had their advantage slashed.
1419 hrs IST: At half time, India and Australia are level at 1-1.
1417 hrs IST: Eddie Ockenden gets the equaliser for Australia. Ball into the area and the Aussie player makes the most of the narrow angle on offer to bang the board.
1415 hrs IST: Penalty corner for Australia. Their second this game. 1:22 to play in the half. First real involvement for Chikte to deny Dawson. Stays 1-0 to India.
1411 hrs IST: GOAL! This time there is no mistake or post to stop India. Harmanpreet Singh puts India in the lead. Mandeep with the ball into the area and plenty of time and room for Harmanpreet to simply push it in. India are 1-0 up
1409 hrs IST: MANDEEP SINGH HITS THE POST! Mandeep with brilliant stuff to deflect a ball almost underneath him at the near post to push it behind but it comes off the far post. Good run by SV Sunil to provide the layoff
1408 hrs IST: Largely uneventful and cagey second quarter. Both teams unable to make decent strides into the final third and make offensive moves. Stays 0-0
1402 hrs IST: India appeal for dangerous play to the referee. Australia counter it with a review. And the decision is Australia’s way. The ball looped up but as Mandeep didn’t attack the ball, the Aussie player backed away and there was no danger there.
1400 hrs IST: Second quarter underway. India use the referral system – the first time it has been used in the tournament – and avoid a penalty corner for Australia.
1356 hrs IST: At the end of the first quarter, India and Australia are locked at 0-0. Rupinder has come close from a penalty corner and Akashdeep too. Mitton tested Sreejesh but later the Padma Shri Awardee hobbled off with an injury
1351 hrs IST: Reason for concern for India. PR Sreejesh is down and has the medics look at his knee. Collision with an Australian player and Sreejesh hobbles off. Akash Chikte comes on
1348 hrs IST: CHANCE! Akashdeep with smart attempt at deflecting a ball into the area towards the goal. But it goes narrowly wide across the face of the goal. Pradeep Mor with a nice, low and flat ball
1345 hrs IST: Second penalty corner of the game and it goes to India. Sardar to take it and it is trapped well before Rupinder Pal Singh has a shot down the centre. Lovell does well to get a firm hand to it.
1344 hrs IST: Good work by the Australia defence to deny Manpreet a reverse hit. Block a chance at having a crack at the goal.
1343 hrs IST: PR Sreejesh with a strong save to deny Australia. An impressive and quick run from the left and Sreejesh denies a tap in at the far post to block the shot-cum-cross
1340 hrs IST: First penalty corner of the game goes to India. Poor handling and then pass to keep the play going and try and get a shot on target. But not trapped well by Harmanpreet. Chance goes begging
1338 hrs IST: India now slowly taking the attack to their opponents. But the Australian defence is resolute.
