NRL: Former NRL coach Ivan Cleary believes that if Semi Radradra opts out of his contract with the Parramatta Eels he should be banned from the NRL

Andrew Fifita says he would consider a code switch if the money was good.

IF you thought Semi Radradra was the only NRL player tempted by the big dollars on offer in rugby union — think again.

Sharks enforcer Andrew Fifita has revealed if he was headhunted on the type of money Radradra is being offered, he’d consider quitting rugby league too.

Fifita, off-contract at the end of 2018, says the ACT Brumbies have chased him in the past and although an NRL premiership is his goal, he refused to rule out a switch to the 15-man code.

“If someone threw me a million dollars to go to union, I’m going with no hesitation,” Fifita told The Daily Telegraph.

“Anytime, anywhere.

“I’m not saying I’m going to break my contract or move away to another state or go to union, but if someone threw me that much cash on top of my contract now, I’d leave in an instant just because of the facts.

“I grew up playing union and that was my main sport. I would love to have a look after my contract is finished up at Cronulla.

“But at the end of the day I’ve got to a job to do and one more thing to tick off in my sporting career in rugby league and I really want to get the job done.” Fifita understands the challenges of breaking a contract, but has backed Radradra to do what makes him happy.

The barnstorming winger is reportedly weighing up a lucrative offer from French rugby club Bordeaux despite having one season remaining on his Parramatta contract.

“I guess you’ve got to do what’s best for your family,” he reasoned.

“I reckon Parramatta must have gone unfulfilled or something contract-wise and he has seen massive money overseas.

“I think he has to look towards his future and that’s the main thing. I know it’s hard at the end of the day and Sonny Bill did it, but in saying that he has got a family to provide for too.”

As a player that has left two NRL clubs (Canterbury and Brisbane) for family reasons, Ben Barba admits he can relate to Radradra’s current situation.

“For him (Semi) it would probably be a little bit tougher being from Fiji and it’s not just an hour or two hour flight back home,” Barba said.

“I guess I can understand where he is coming from, but it’s his decision. It would be good for him to stay in the game, but if he changes his mind and what’s the leave then it’s his decision and good luck to him.

“But it would be good if he could stay, because he is wonderful for this game.”

In other news, Cronulla remain hopeful of signing a prop to replace David Fifita (Wakefield) before the June 30 deadline ends on Thursday.

The Sharks have been linked to Manly forward Josh Starling, however club officials told The Daily Telegraph they had no interest in the ex-Rabbitoh.

Meanwhile, Fifita has backed Barba to earn a position on Queensland’s bench for Origin III at ANZ Stadium on July 13.

“If he gets selected he deserves to be in the Queensland jumper,” he said. “I think he would be one of the best utility players they could put on the bench.

“He is in outstanding form and he and a few other players in this team have really taken us to another level. But it has all been on the back of Benny.”
